Since 2022, alongside my private practice, I have been employed by a nationwide charity that partners with a private healthcare provider to offer short-term counselling. The charity supports cancer patients and their families, focusing on both emotional and physical well-being during treatment and often beyond.

This role has deepened my experience in supporting individuals as they come to terms with the profound impact of a cancer diagnosis, sometimes including palliative or end-of-life care, as well as the often-difficult side effects of treatment. It has also highlighted how significantly a diagnosis can affect the wider family system, and how it may reactivate earlier life experiences or bring up anxieties about the future.

While it is often a challenging experience, I have found that many people use it as an opportunity to reflect on what matters most to them. It can be a time of re-evaluating priorities and considering how they want to move forward in life.

Many clients choose to continue working with me privately once the short-term counselling ends, particularly if they feel that longer-term therapeutic support would be beneficial.
